Earlier this week, the Baker-Polito administration announced updates to the state Covid guidelines, which were followed by new mask guidance for youth sports from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association and USA Softball.
Based on these guidelines, effective immediately:
Face coverings for athletes 18 and under while playing outdoor sports are no longer required. Players may continue to wear masks at their discretion.
Face coverings for coaches will be required when they cannot consistently maintain social distancing. Based on state guidelines, masks will no longer be required for coaches as of May 29, 2021.
Spectators should maintain social distancing and are required to follow city and state outdoor protocols.
Players are encouraged to continue to use their own equipment
Players are encouraged to refrain from handshakes, high fives, and fist bumps
Players who have tested positive may not attend practices or games for 10 days after a positive test result
Please note that for individuals who are not fully vaccinated, the CDC advises the following:
Wear a face covering or mask that covers your nose and mouth.
Stay 6 feet apart from others that don't live with you.
Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated indoor spaces.
Wash your hands often with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water aren't available.
Get tested if you have been exposed to or have symptoms associated with COVID-19.
These guidelines are subject to change as new information and guidance is provided.
The Parkway Girls Softball League is committed to helping all our players and families remain healthy during our 2021 season. We will be following the guidance of USA Softball MA in regards to COVID-19 precautions. The most important requirement in their guidance is that players should not attend games or practices if they do not feel well. Another important requirement is that players cannot share Batting Helmets, Bats, Water Bottles or catching equipment. Each team has been provided an addtional set of catcher's equipment. Players are required to provide their own bat and batting helmet, which must have a facemask. If you are not able to provide your own, the coaches have a limited number available to be loaned and returned at the end of the season. Please contact the league via email (email@example.com) if you are not able to supply either a batting helmet or bat, and your team is not able to provide a loaner.
We are also asking each player and parent to sign a COVID-19 Participation waiver. Please print the blank waiver form and give your completed form to your coach before the next practice.
Please review the USA Softball information posted in the document section of our website that lists their rules so you understand what is required for compliance. The file name is 2021 Return to League Play USA Softball Guidance. Here is the link to the USA Softball MA guidelines posted in the document section of the PGSL Website.
Here is the link to the waiver we are asking all participants to sign and return to their coach, which is also posted in the document section of our website. The file name is PGSL 2021 Participation Waiver.
Registration for the 2021 Parkway Girls Softball League Season is Open! We are looking forward to a Spring Season of Parkway Girls Softball in 2021. We are planning to have our evaluations on Saturday, March 27th, for players that are moving up to the next division or are new to our program. Players in the U8 and T-Ball divisions do not have to attend. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will have the evaluations outdoors at West Roxbury High School. We anticipate games beginning on Saturday, May 1st, and Playoffs concluding on Sunday, June 20th. Please watch for communications with more details of our evaluations and Spring Skills Clinics.
